In 1960's the State of Sikkim was sparsely populated. The very Dara Gaon at Tadong being in the proximity of Gangtok, wore an empty look. The era was such that people built walk ways from within the house premises to allow the pedestrians to pass through their yards. The people were so scarce that they longed to have a glance of the passerby and, in the process, have the fortune to converse with them.
It was in 1964 that Late Augustine Dhungel purchased a piece of land along with the house at the very location where Green Dale Senior Secondary Schoolis located today. In those days there were very few believers; to be precise, only four families of Late Babulal Rai, Late D. T. Sada, Late Augustine Dhungel and Late Rosie Lepcha. They quite often gathered together for fellowship and shared their joys and sorrows. Besides, the family of Elder O. T. Lepcha was located at Amdo Golai. But mostly they visited Gangtok church because of the convenience of transportation and familiarity with the believers of Gangtok. Sunday School was run in the SNT Government Quarter occupied by Late John Balin. The Sunday School comprised of very few children owing to the limited number of Christian families at Dara Gaon and its vicinity.
Christian believers attended the church service at Gangtok under the pastoral care of Rev. C. T. Pazo. It used to be a matter of great delight and excitement whenever someone or a group visited from Gangtok. We vividly remember Late Elder Panchabir Rai who frequented the houses of these believers.
Gradually, migration from the villages increased, especially from Sombaria, West Sikkim. With the prospect of finding jobs, acquiring education and other vistas, people from all over Sikkim flocked at Gangtok, which was the capital of the kingdom of SikKim. Among them was a good chunk of believers who formed a vibrant and joyful Christian fellowship at Tadong.
It would not be inappropriate to state that the first step towards establishing Tadong Church was taken by Late Elder A. Dhungel. Right from its inception, he was passionately involved in the affairs of the believers. So much so he would make it a point to visit every house individually to take stock of the situation and resolve their issues. He would visit every house individually, teaching from the word of God, encouraging them, guiding them, praying for them and helping them so that they come out strong and faithful in the Lord. The present active and vibrant congregation is a proof of his dedication and hard work. His follow upation for those ate ring the materies aran an o their absence.
Before the church was established at Tadong, many servants of the Lord made an effort to keep the congregation stable and to nurse and feed them with spiritual manna from the word of God. To mention a few of them, Late Elder P. S. Molommu was mightily used by the Lord. It was under his guidance that every year Retreats were organized at different locations in Tadong. Likewise, Mr. J. O. Simick, Late Chho Tshering Lepcha, Mr. D. D. Dhungel, Mr. Norden Tasho, Miss Shanti Lepcha, Ms Elishiba Dhungel, Mr Suiman Simick, Mr Paul Dukpa, Mr Bernard Lepcha, Mr Pemba Stephen Lepcha, Mr Amos R. Lepcha and many others too extended their which was comendable. Many of the Lord's servants also guided the Church members to stay firm and strong in the faith and come closer to the Lord. Some faithful stalwarts were Late Rev. Martin F. Rai, Rev. P. S. Tingbo, Late Rev. Namgyal Lepcha, Rev. Enos Simick, Rev. Kiran Sharma and Rev. Kamal Andrew Rai from Mirik.
